You are worthy of the time it takes to do the things that heal your heart

May you forever stay in pursuit
of the small things that warm the heart—
not because these small things
fix or solve everything,
but because they are reminders that perhaps,
even in the waiting,
there is room to counter the cold
with flickers of hope that remind you:
you are still alive.

I know that at times the word “hope”
may feel too vague or too loose
to carry any significant meaning,
especially when you have heard it
time and time again.
But this is also true:
you’ve witnessed the sun rise
time and time again, too,
and even if you don’t notice it
or say anything about it,
it still has profound significance,
each day.

So if you happen to notice
any flicker of hope today,
I hope you feel free to take it in.
I hope the warmth of the smallest,
most seemingly insignificant thing
creates space for you to breathe.

You have been through so much,
and it only makes sense
if the heart gets heavy.
You are worthy of the time it takes
to do the things that heal your heart
